Count on me

I just discovered this song a few days ago, and what an absolutely wonderful song it is. It's a song about friendship and the things that good friends do for each other. Not only is it a great catchy song with a really upbeat melody but the lyrics include some very common sayings and idioms that we use in English.

Watch the video, listen to the song and read the lyrics as they appear. Then listen again and see if you can understand the meaning of the eight phrases and idioms below.

  1. to find yourself somewhere ('If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea')

  2. what we are made of ('Find out what we are made of')

  3. a friend in need ('When we are called to help our friends in need)

  4. to count on someone ('You can count on me')

  5. to be there ('I'll be there')

  6. to toss and turn ('If you're tossing and turning and you just can't fall asleep')

  7. how much you mean to someone ('If you ever forget how much you mean to me')

  8. a shoulder to cry on ('You'll always have my shoulder when you cry')

When you are ready, choose the correct meanings in the test sheet below
