A geothermal power plant works by tapping into steam or hot water reservoirs underground; the heat is then used to drive an electrical generator. Because counties like New Zealand and Japan are in the 'Ring of Fire', there is a lot of geothermal activity under the ground in these countries, and they have a number of geothermal power plants.
