South Korea spycams
On 9 June 2019, some 22,000 women gathered in South Korea to protest about spycam pornography. The demonstration in Hyehwa, Seoul, was the biggest women’s rally thus far in South Korean history.
Spycam (= spy camera) pornography is the recording of others without their consent (=agreement) then circulating the images as pornographic materials, and it is a widespread problem in South Korea.
Mobile phones aren’t the only tools used; spy cameras, small enough to be hidden in everyday objects, are easy to buy in South Korea. By police estimates, there have been over 6,000 spycam cases each year between 2013 to 2017. The overwhelming majority of the assailants are men; most victims are women.
