Making comparisons

This is the fourth in a series of IELTS Speaking Part 3 model answers and advice on how to improve your IELTS speaking. The others are:

Something that you want to do in IELTS Speaking Part 3 is make comparisons if possible. When you do this, you can use more grammar. Practise thinking of things in simple pairs. Quite often people's preferences, habits and behaviours are different, depending on whether they are:

  • rich and poor

  • city and country

  • men and women

Listen to the answer to the IELTS Part 3 question; '' Do you think globalisation has a negative or positive effect in developing countries?'' and answer the two questions.

  1. What are the four areas impacted by globalisation that the speaker mentions?

  2. What is the saying that the speaker refers to?

Listen to the answer again and identify the FOUR phrases or words the speaker uses to make comparisons (e.g. however, whereas, in contrast).
