On-line shopping

2020 is anticipated to be a transformative year for e-commerce, with the trend in shopping using mobiles continuing to grow. In 2020, e-commerce spend is expected to reach $666 billion and will account for $1 out of every $12 paid toward retail products. The top-growing digital shopping categories are expected to be books, music, and video followed by computers and consumer electronics.

The trend of using mobiles for online shopping will continue and mobile shopping will remain the fastest-growing retail commerce method. Furthermore, direct purchasing from social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram is also growing, with more and more adults making purchases straight from social media.

Another emerging trend is the move to more frictionless commerce, that is the creation of easier, faster and more convenient online shopping. There will be faster click-to-door delivery speeds, led by Amazon, which cut delivery times from 4.2 days to 2.5 days on average over the course of the past three years. Other trends to look out for include the rise of cashier-less stores and buy-online-pick-up-in-store.
