The tourism industry, as part of the service sector, has become an important source of income for many regions and even for entire countries. Developing countries in particular, often look to increase foreign revenue through tourism.
Tourism ( = travel for pleasure to other places) has been around for thousands of years, and many of the major religions (e.g. Christianity, Buddhism and Islam) have traditions of pilgrimage. In recent times however, it is not all good for tourism. Due to globalisation, a number of cities and regions around the world are increasingly experiencing the negative aspects of tourism.
