Scanning speed test 3: Myanmar film history

This is the third test aimed at you assessing your scanning speed.

This third test is a little more difficult, as you will also have to identify and find synonyms.

Please, only take the test once.

Scanning refers to the ability to look at (not read) a text and find certain words quickly. It is a critical skill you need to pass the IELTS reading test. Speed is essential so that you can find keywords in a reading text quickly and then answer all the questions.
Synonyms are words with similar meanings (e.g. announce = declare). It is vital that you are able to identify synonyms as in the IELTS test as the keywords in a question will usually refer to a synonym in the text.
  • After you enter your details below, you will see 10 keywords and a reading text.

  • THREE of the keywords are in red - this means you will need to find a synonym in the text.

  • Find the keywords/synonyms and match them with the correct paragraph in the text.

  • Your time will be recorded when you click 'Confirm Finish'.

Enter your details below to begin the test.
